  •  VIDEO GAMES AS AN ART FORM

It has come to my attention that apparently; Video Games are not considered an art form.  I really don’t see how this could be considering all the artistic aspects that go into making a game.  I see Video Games as, not only interactive movies per say, but also interactive art.

There are not only designers and animators for games but there are also writers or story developers and voice actors which help in the process of making a game.

An example of a game is one of my favorite games, Bioshock.  Bioshock, to me, is a work of art.  It reflex the time period it is set in and the artwork or design of the game is amazing (see examples). through design they are able to keep this game in tune with the time period, the city in the game being built in the 1930’s, has a very Art Deco style to it.  The costumes of the characters in the game also reflect this.  The clothing is ranging from the 30’s - the 60’s (when your character comes into the city it is 1960). With the way the camera moves in the game it seems like it could be a movie and some of it could even be a painting.

I think Video Games should be considered an art form.  A lot of creative artistic work goes into it and i think it deserves that recognition.
